His health and yours
Clean, healthy, happy kittens are unlikely to present any kind of health hazard to you or your family. There are, however, a few simple pointers that should be borne in mind and a few basic hygiene rules to follow.
1. Be sure to wash your kitten’s food bowls separately from yours, keep him away from areas where you prepare food and don’t feed him raw meat or fish.
2. Pay particular attention to his toilet. Change his litter daily, his tray weekly and don’t let him into children’s sandpits which he can easily mistake for a litter tray. If you do find any cat faeces you should bury them, especially when there are children around.
3. Groom him regularly, and follow your vet’s instructions carefully when it comes to worming and other treatments. Get any illnesses treated promptly.
4. Finally, don’t allow him to lick you or anyone else around the face.
Follow these tips and there is no reason why your kitten shouldn’t grow into a beautiful, healthy cat with whom you and your family will live happily for many years to come.
