Preventing tartar

Bad breath, gum infection, and the loss of teeth are all the consequences of poor dental hygiene. That’s why it’s very important to take the best possible care of your kitten’s teeth.

It’s impossible to prevent the formation of tartar completely, but there are several methods to slow the process down.

Give him regular check-ups

You could always try brushing your kitten’s teeth, but it’s not always easy to get him to accept this. What is really important is to check the teeth regularly, especially the front teeth and the incisors, which are usually the first to be attacked by tartar. Don’t wait until a thick layer of tartar has formed before you seek help because the damage will already have started. If you notice red, swollen gums, take him to the vet’s immediately and you should have his teeth checked anyway at least once a year. A sensible idea is to combine it with his annual vaccinations.
