Food, glorious food
Only give a kitten what’s good for him
In general, kittens are very robust and hardly ever seriously ill but they can sometimes suffer from vomiting and diarrhoea. One possible cause could be the food they eat so it’s important to minimise the risk, by only feeding your kitten what’s good for him, like the Whiskas® Kitten range. And be sure to give small meals at regular intervals rather than letting him gorge on a large feast.
What’s on the menu?
Scraps from the table should never be given to a kitten, as he is unable to digest everything that we can. Spices can easily upset his tummy and the lack of the specific nutrition he needs can cause him serious harm. It’s much better to feed your kitten food that’s been specially prepared with his requirements in mind, like Whiskas® kitten pouches. Not only will your kitten find them delicious, it’s also the best way to make sure he gets all the vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates and calories he needs during this rapid growth phase.
What’s off the menu?
Your kitten must never be given uncooked fish or meat, because they can contain diseases such as salmonella or the virus which leads to the deadly Aujeszkyan illness. Likewise, you should never feed him bones (raw or cooked), as they can become stuck in his throat. Just provide him with a healthy, balanced diet, rich in essential proteins, minerals and vitamins and should be confident of ensuring his good health. However, should your kitten vomit more than once, or suffer from diarrhoea, you must take him to the vet immediately.
