Live longer, live healthier with the right food

If you want your cat to live as long as possible, you need to take good care of him. And that means giving him loads of love and delicious, well-balanced food. Good nutrition will help your cat to develop natural antibodies every day. And to help support and strengthen his immune system further, the Waltham Research Centre has developed Whiskas® Kitten food.

Research has revealed that a cat's cells, like a human being's, are constantly under attack from free radicals. These are molecules that weaken the immune system by oxidation. Fortunately, antioxidants such as vitamin E, taurine and carotinoids, can fight these free radicals.

Make sure that your kitten receives vitamin E, vitamin C and taurine regularly and his natural immune system will be strengthened. And the best way to do that is to feed him Whiskas® Kitten food with its unique blend of vitamins, taurine, lutein and carotinoids, as soon as he is able to eat solid food.

    Paws up for proteins

Kittens are natural carnivores and have evolved to depend on meat for the majority of their protein, with only a small amount coming from plant material. Their protein requirement is quite large, especially for kittens. They use up so much energy that they need up to ten grams of protein per kilogram of their body weight for healthy development. Compare that with humans who only need about one gram of protein per kilogram of body weight and adult cats who only need about six.

    What’s the point of proteins?

Proteins are responsible not just for the growth, construction and renewal of body tissue, but also for the production of antibodies, enzymes and white and red blood cells. Proteins are made up of amino acids and, once broken down into these constituent parts, they can be rebuilt into body tissues. There are 22 amino acids in all and they can be divided into non-essential, which are formed by the body itself, and essential amino acids, which are not. One key amino acid, found mostly in meat, is taurine. This contributes to the proper functioning of the brain, plays an important role in eyesight function and is important for the heart and the nervous system. Lack of essential amino acids in the diet can lead to deficiency diseases and serious health problems, such as eye and heart disorders.

    The importance of balance

Cats living in the wild get the protein they need by eating their prey. Domestic cats need an appropriate diet and the best your kitten can have is Whiskas® Kitten pouches and Whiskas® Kitten Complete dry food. This will ensure that he has all the protein he needs, including essential amino acids like taurine, for a long and healthy life.
