Sleeping Cats

langage-corporel-du-Chaton.jpg

Kittens love to sleep. In fact, most cats will sleep anywhere from 13–16 hours a day. The reason is simple: meat is a rich source of energy, and sleeping after each meal allows that energy to be conserved.

So, next time you catch your kitten napping, remember that they're not being lazy. Instead, your feline friend is mimicking the natural behaviour of their big cat cousins, making sure they're restored and ready for the next hunt!

Dusk and dawn

In the wild, most big cats are active at dawn and dusk, having slept through the intense heat in the middle of the day. This is the best time for hunting: their prey is active, and their eyesight is at its sharpest.

Your little kitten behaves in just the same way, so you’ll probably find they're active early in the morning or just before sunset. If you want to spend some quality time with your kitten during these naturally energetic periods, plan some playtime at dawn and dusk.

Body heat

Very young kittens can’t control their body temperature as well as adults. To help maintain their body heat, they cuddle up to their mother and litter-mates. That’s why lots of young kittens – not to mention older cats – love nothing better than to snuggle up on your lap.

They can be active at inconvenient times! Early in the morning you may hear them chasing toys, not counting sheep

Your cat isn't lazy - they're giving in to their big cat cousin instincts! They don't call it catnapping for no reason...
